10 Most Powerful Dragons & Dinosaurs In Marvel Comics, Ranked

After Daredevil: Born Again recently received a full announcement to audiences worldwide, fans are incredibly excited to see the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen as more than just a supporting character in She-Hulk. Many are even hoping that the rest of the Defenders will appear alongside him.

Given that some of them, like Iron Fist, had somewhat lackluster appearances, there is a chance that the other Defenders may receive updated origins or backstories, and the possibility of seeing Iron Fist take on a dragon to get his powers again could be fantastic. There are many powerful creatures like dragons and dinosaurs in the Marvel universe, and it would be excellent to see them on screen.

10/10 Old Lace

A loyal dinosaur from an alternate and future universe who happens to be a member of the Runaways, Old Lace possesses a telepathic connection to Gert Yorkes. Though she has few other powers, as a dinosaur, she’s certainly got a sharp set of teeth and claws that set her apart.

Often considered one of the best Runaways, Old Lace is a hero who often helps to get the team out of trouble. Her connection to Gert, and later Chase Stein, means that she can never actually harm those she has bonded to. While it is a weakness, it ensures that she always has allies nearby to help her in a fight.

9/10 Sauron

Though Sauron is best known for one of the most meme’d Marvel Comics moments, he is also a brilliant scientist and a skilled fighter who has certainly proven himself in the field. A therapist bitten by a dinosaur, Sauron gained the ability to turn himself into a living dinosaur.

Now with the abilities to steal the powers and life energies of mutants, while also possessing telekinesis, flight, and energy powers, Sauron is certainly a tough villain to face. His skills as a psychologist also give him the ability to hypnotize anyone around him, which makes him even more dangerous.

8/10 Devil Dinosaur

There are many mutants in the Marvel universe, but there are few mutant dinosaurs. The Devil Dinosaur, though, is a mutant with extraordinary intelligence, super strength, and a friendship with the smartest person in the world: the young hero Moon Girl.

Appearing in one of the best comic book runs for young readers, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur have proven to be an extraordinary team. With several lighthearted adventures under their belt, the duo has proven capable of accomplishing anything together.

7/10 Lockheed

The draconic companion to Kitty Pryde, Lockheed is an alien who happened to be engaged in a war with the Brood, one of the most dangerous alien species in Marvel, when he met the X-Men. He quickly attached himself to the team and has been an invaluable ally ever since.

With the power to breathe fire, resist telepathy, and fly, the little dragon has taken on all manner of enemies with his favorite human by his side. Lockheed can also comprehend any languages, which certainly helped him during his short stint as an agent of S.W.O.R.D. when Kitty was stuck in a giant bullet. Of course, his small stature means he can’t actually do much damage, so he isn’t as powerful as most other dragons.

6/10 Stegron

Once an ordinary scientist who decided to consume dinosaur tissue, Stegron became a humanoid dinosaur with above-average intelligence. With superstrength, speed, and the ability to control other dinosaurs, Stegron has become a remarkably dangerous villain.

His claws and tail also make him a dangerous threat with more versatility than most other monsters. Now capable of committing crimes on a worldwide level, Stegron has proven himself as a strong dinosaur and a major villain. It certainly helps that his plate and scales let him take a hit.

5/10 Reptil

After discovering a gemstone that embedded itself into his skin, Reptil discovered that he had the ability to transform into any dinosaur. Not only that, but he could shift any body part with absolute ease. It made him a strong shapeshifter, but also one of Marvel’s most interesting young heroes.

A member of a forgotten Marvel team, the Avengers Academy, Reptil has proven himself a capable fighter and a man interested in doing good wherever he can. With superhuman healing, strength, and flight, he can take on any threat the Academy happens to come across.

4/10 Shogo

There’s something to be said for a toddler with the power to turn into a gigantic reality-altering dragon. One of only a few Krakoan humans, the young Shogo often joins his mother and the rest of Excalibur on their missions into the supernatural Otherworld.

There, Shogo’s imagination lets him transform into an enormous monster that often serves as Excalibur’s transportation across the realm. Unfortunately, while the dragon form can breathe fire, his breaths are so intense that he can literally burn holes through reality, so Excalibur tends to do their best to keep him from using it. Still, though very powerful, Shogo can only transform in Otherworld, so his powers are severely limited.

3/10 Grendel

There are few creatures more dangerous than an angry dragon. A symbiote dragon is certainly among them. Created by Knull, the God of the Symbiotes, the dragon Grendel has proven to be horrifically dangerous to everyone in the Marvel universe.

Besides typical abilities that are common to every dragon — like super speed, strength, and flight — Grendel can reanimate the dead, produce symbiotic tendrils, and engage in interstellar flight on a whim. No one is safe from Grendel’s wrath, which is why he is so fundamentally dangerous. Still, given that sound and electricity still pose a threat to him, which keeps him from conquering the universe.

2/10 Fin Fang Foom

An often recurring villain, Fin Fang Foom is one of the biggest Marvel characters by size alone. Fin Fang Foom would be dangerous enough, thanks to his size and his claws, but he has also proven to have more powers that make him even more of a threat.

With the ability to spit acid, regenerate, and even steal the bodies of others, Fin Fang Foom is never limited in a fight. To make matters even more terrifying, he can shapeshift at will, so he can escape a confrontation with ease. His telepathy also helps him avoid being taken down by even Omega-level telepaths or any heroes sent to calm the raging dragon.

1/10 Shou-Lao

The dragon that gives each Iron Fist their powers, Shou-Lao is the source of the Immortal City’s strength. Where other dragons or dinosaurs can be felled, it is impossible to truly defeat Shou-Lao, as the dragon is immortal and will be resurrected following each death.

The final battle that each prospective Iron Fist must face is against the Immortal Dragon. Even after striking him down directly, he can never be truly defeated, as he simply transfers a portion of power before resurrecting once more. Incredibly fast and with the ability to breathe fire, Shou-Lao is as dangerous as he is strong, making him the most powerful dragon in Marvel Comics.
